Ingrid Capacity establishes battery storage in Vimmerby

Earlier this autumn, Ingrid Capacity announced that it was establishing Sweden’s largest battery storage facility in Karlshamn, with a capacity of 70 megawatts, connected to E.ON’s regional grid. Now the company can announce its next establishment; a 20-megawatt battery storage facility in Vimmerby. A power that can be compared to what a city of 40,000 inhabitants consumes at its peak power demand. Ingrid Capacity currently has 500 MW under development in various stages at some 20 sites around Sweden.

In order to double energy use in the Nordic region, and do so with fossil-free power generation, energy storage is essential. The production capacity of renewable energy sources varies over time, depending on weather and wind.
“We currently have 500 MW under development in various stages at some 20 sites around Sweden. Energy storage enables society’s transition to renewable energy. Our systems act on call to even out the difference between production and consumption in the grid at secondary level. If there is a deficit of electricity, the battery can feed out to the grid to compensate, and similarly charge from the grid when there is a temporary surplus,” says Nicklas Bäcker, Chief Strategy Officer at Ingrid Capacity.
“Furthermore, the ambition is to build charging infrastructure for electric vehicles directly adjacent to the property. This will be a welcome addition to the infrastructure in Vimmerby and the surrounding area”, continues Niklas Bäcker.
